Open Space Committee

Open Space Plan Survey

Wrentham is updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) and completing an OSRP that gains approval from the Massachusetts Division of Conservation Services (DCS) serves two primary purposes:

  1. to guide future Town decisions pertaining to open space and recreation and
  2. to make the Town eligible for grants that can be used to purchase open space and develop recreation facilities.

Public participation is a key component of preparing a plan so your input is very important. A survey of Town residents was completed on October 15, 2019 and the results can be viewed here (Report on Survey Results, November 2019).

Open Space Commitee

The Open Space Committee was formed to help ensure the protection of Wrentham's natural areas, so that its residents can continue to enjoy the benefits of our great outdoors.

To that end, the Open Space Committee makes recommendations regarding land offered to the Town with the Right of First Refusal, and also hosts a range of speakers and presenters for the public, as well as other events to increase our awareness of and appreciation for our natural world. One of the attributes that makes Wrentham an attractive place to live is the abundance of forests, fields and wetlands that we have. In spite of the town's recent growth, Wrentham still retains a strong sense of its original rural character.

The Open Space Committee assists the Conservation Commission in its stewardship of the town's Conservation Areas. It also is currently drafting the newest version of the town's Open Space and Recreation Plan.

The Open Space Committee is appointed by the Board of Selectmen.

The Open Space Committee meets most months on the second Monday of the month at 7:30 pm on the second floor of Town Hall. Meetings are open to the public.

Human Resources

The goal of Wrentham's Human Resource Department is to provide lawful guidance and direction, coordination and leadership to Town officials and departments; to assist in creating policies and procedures that will attract and maintain professional, knowledgeable, and innovative employees; to ensure a fair and equitable work environment and to serve as a resource for employee relations and development.

Elderly and Disabled Taxation Fund Comittee

The Elderly and Disabled Taxation Fund Committee has funds available to assist elderly and/or disabled residents to defray the cost of their property taxes. The fund consists totally of donations from residents, businesses, community groups, churches, and friends.

The basic eligibility requirements that are fund recipients:

  • must be at least 65 years of age by July 1st of current year, or disabled;
  • must not exceed an annual combined household income of $46,530;
  • must have owned and/or occupied the property as his/her primary domicile for at least five years prior to the current year

Meeting the income criteria does not automatically guarantee an award. In addition to household income, other assets, as well as other household debt and expenses, will be taken into consideration. A copy of the applicant's most recent year's Federal Income Tax Return(s) for each member of the household is required to be submitted with the application.

Applications and Application Guidelines (Definitions and Eligibility) will be available at the Assessor's Office and also at the Senior Center after August 1st. Applications are due back no later than October 1st. Final award decisions will be made by the Town's Elderly and Disabled Taxation Fund Committee no later than December 31st. Awards will be applied to the February and/or May tax bill.

Description of the Committee

The Elderly and Disabled Taxation Fund Committee consists of the Chairperson of the Board of Assessors, the Town Treasurer, and three (3) Residents appointed by the Board of Selectmen. The purpose of the Committee is to carry out the provisions of MGL c.60, s.3D to provide aid to elderly and disabled persons of low income to defray real estate taxes. MGL c.60, s.3D was accepted by Town Meeting on June 14, 2004.
